  1. INTRODUCTION ON THE CONSERVATION OF THE CULTURAL HERITAGE: History of the Swiss cultural heritage, history and ethics of conservation, examples.
  2. THE USE OF STONE IN BUILT CULTURAL HERITAGE: Mineralogy, petrography, practical exercises to identify the 3 rock families, physical and mechanical parameters of stones, measurements of these parameters. Consequences on the use and degradation of building stones.
  3. MORTARS.
  4. MATERIALS AND METHODS OF CONSERVATION.
  5. CASE STUDIES: Visits in Lausanne, examination on a case study.
