Consolidation monitoring

In 2007 – 2009, we worked on a research and development project on controlling and monitoring consolidation treatments for the cathedrals of Basel, Bern, Fribourg and Lausanne. These are all concerned by consolidation problems facing various sandstones – and we aided in developing methods for simple in-situ measurements in order to optimize consolidation in individual cases and to monitor its effect over time. Based on a literature review, we have selected a MOIST 200B of the hf sensor, a device emitting and receiving in return microwaves supposed to detect moisture in walls. The results of this measurement technique have unfortunately proved far too random to meet our needs.
